PhD positions are available starting January 2017:
The McGill Multiscale Modeling of Materials Group (MMMG) is dynamic research group at McGill University working on the following areas:
•    Multiscale modeling of hydrogen Embrittlement of structural metals
•    Strengthening and failure mechanisms in light alloys
•    Novel Physics and Mechanics in Low-dimensional Nanomaterials
•    Computational Design and Development of Thermal Barrier Coatings
•    Numerical modeling (i.e., FEA and DEM) of coating process

Openings of PhD candidates (starting as early as Jan. 2017) are currently available in the following topics:
Topic 1: Multiscale modeling of hydrogen embrittlement in high-strength metals;
Topic 2: Nanoscale dislocation dynamics and deformation mechanisms in light alloys;
Topic 3: Strain-induced self-assembly and piezoelectric effects in nanostructures;
Topic 4: First-principles exploration of materials of novel thermophysical or electronic properties.
We are seeking for motivated students with (preferable but not limited to) backgrounds in the following areas:
•    Computational materials science
•    Continuum mechanics and crystal plasticity
•    Condense matter physics and solid-state physics
Prior experiences in programming (e.g., c/c++, FORTRAN, Matlab etc.) and software packages (e.g., LAMMPS, VASP and ABAQUS) are plus but not mandatory.

One thing to note is that GRE is NOT required for the application. TOEFL or IELTS alone is sufficient. For requirements on Competency in English, please refer to the 2nd link above.

Additional note: Postdoc position may be also be available depending on availability of funding support. At this moment, preference will be given to applicants who hold external funding.
